K700 Security Bars

It has taken several years for State corrective services departments and even us at Steelfinne Fabrications to fully understand the properties and benefits of K700 steel and its use in high security windows as the primary security barrier. Originally introduced by Steelfinne to Australia to replace the discontinued P8 bars (formally produced by Comsteel Pty Ltd for the Queensland Government), it was first thought to have equivalent properties. Following security breaches through P8 windows in Queensland Prisons exhaustive testing and development was carried out to determine the best possible materials for this purpose.

This lead to the development of several alternative "Tool resistant steels" including various types of case hardened materials. It was found that the K700 material outperformed these tool steels and all other materials through testing by the University of Queensland on behalf of the Queensland Department of Corrective Services.

The K700 material was found to have far greater resistance to cutting than the original P8 and case hardened materials. It also has the ability to be welded and hot dip galvanised for the greatest corrosion protection without compromising the integrity, hardness or strength of the fabricated window assemblies.

Due to the importance of the window systems to the physical security of the facility, Steelfinne in conjunction with metallurgical and welding consultants have developed quality procedures for the fabrication of bar assemblies to ensure conformity of our finish products to stringent performance standards.
