Mid North Coast Correctional Center – NSW

Description

The Mid North Coast Correctional Centre is a 500 bed medium and maximum security facility located on a green field site near Kempsey in New South Wales. This project was undertaken by John Holland construction in a joint venture with local builders Lahey Constructions. The architect was Perumal Pedovali.

In accordance with NSW Corrective Services standards the construction is primarily precast and in-situ reinforced concrete to cell blocks and blockwork to peripheral structures.

Scope

Steelfinne was contracted to supply and install the secure door and window package which included all security doors, frames and locking systems; all security windows and associated metalwork items such as K700 screens to the detention unit exercise yards.

Project Challenges

In order to meet the objectives and requirements of the Architect and client Steelfinne undertook the development of several new products including,

• Steel clad and framed, timber core high security door
• High security operable (centre pivot) windows
• Double glazed cell strip windows

Through close consultation with the Architect and builder we were able to design, test and manufacture these products within project time frames, exceeding the expectations of the key stakeholders. These products have now become the new standard for future New South Wales Corrective Services facilities.
