Why Modular Security?
Modular Security (ModSec) specializes in modular construction systems and components for security purposes.
The major area of business activity is the off-site manufacture of prison and police facilitites but ModSec systems and components are suitable for a wide range of applications. These include transportable or demountable buildings (for remote or difficult sites), strongrooms, safes, walls etc.
Correctional administrators face multiple problems of overcrowding, rising numbers and outdated, substandard facilities.
ModSec systems have been developed in response to the need to porvide new facilities quickly and exonomically. This is achieved by specially designed ModSec panels* and the ModSec erection systems.
*Patent No. 597288 605137
Advantages of ModSec
Compared with conventional construction methods offering a comparable degree of security, ModSec systems offer the following advantages
- reduced construction times
- lower component costs
- lower erection costs
- precision engineering due to off-site manufacture under factory conditions
- cheaper structure due to the relatively light weight of ModSec panels*
- lower gross building areas for the same viable space
Cost savings associated with shorter construction times are particularly impressive. With a properly organised team of workers, the erection of three or four cells per day is readily achievable.
Unlike most pre-fabricated security systems available overseas, the ModSec system provides the client with
- design flexibility
- a range of security levels
- fittings from a standard range (including doors and windows) or as specified
- reduced transport costs
- simple installation requiring no special skills
- use as a free standing building or in a new or existing shell or structural grid
The above benefits are achieved in conjunction with excellent quality and appearance.
Systems and Components
The ModSec system and security has been approved for use by correctional authorities in Australasia, New Zealand, Solomon Islands and Switzerland. The system is also approved by police authorities in Australiasia.
Windows, doors, viewing panels* as an integral part of the structure with an extremely high degree of rubustness.
The ModSec panels* are then installed in a rigid, integrated steel channel structure.
ModSec components can be used to build a structure in their own right or be used in conjunction with other systems such as on a concrete pad or within a steel or concrete framework and as a result of its light weight has dramatic cost savings on structural design of buildings.
Security Characteristics
MODSEC PANELS*
The security offered by ModSec panels* comes from the composition of core materials and outer skins of galvanised steel.
The ModSec system has been tested and provides an IHR fire rating which conforms to BCA requirements.
While it is strongly recommended that use be made of standard ModSec panels*, ModSec will construct to specific client specifications.
MODSEC ERECTION SYSTEM
The ModSec erection system is based on precision-made steel channels into which the ModSec panels* fit tightly. As both compnents are factory-made, very close tolerances can be achieved.
This eliminates the hiding places for contraband so often associated with other forms of construction.
It also means that there are no points for a prisoner to work on as all connections and ends of panels are well concealed.
Flexibility and Options
As ModSec panels* can be provided in any desired configuration, the system can be adapted to any design.
ModSec also offers a range of standard cell and living unit designs based on standard ModSec systems and components in a range of security levels. Within these standard designs the client may specify and fitting from the ModSec range. Alternatively, the client may wish to utilise specially developed ModSec components (such as ModSec doors) within his own design or specify particular fittings and furniture within the standard ModSec range.
The ModSec system can be used to construct not only cells but also associated structures (e.g. a complete living unit), other structures such as secure walkways, perimeter walls, armories etc. or indeed an entire prison.
Both the external and internal appearance of buildings are at the client's discretion.
